I can confirm this bug on three very different devices running Lubuntu
14.04 (from a recently upgrade, not a fresh install).

I've tried most of the work-arounds on this page (including the most
obvious one of trying to start nm-applet), to no avail. On two of the
devices, I could live with this bug because the device still auto-
connects to known networks, but for one of them, this was not the case.

I was forced to downgrade to 13.10 on that device. I have yet to see a
workaround that does the job, so I'm eagerly awaiting a patch for this.
