Same with Xubuntu 14.04 on Lenovo X200 and Acer Extensa 5235 both with Intel chipsets. But if I connect external monitor and close the lid, laptop wakes up on that monitor with no problem. I checked the display settings after that and notebook display is disabled here (on X200).
