Thanks, Chris. It's sad for me, but this event was the straw the broke the camel's back, and I have abandoned Linux on the desktop after ~15 years (Debian hamm). If a so-called LTS release could not support an essential function in one of the handful of its most important applications, then I can no longer trust it. There were other problems, but this was the final nail in the coffin.
It was a difficult and sad choice to make, but it's done and I've moved on. I wish you well.
