As I just read  at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=532424 it
should be possible to compile alsa by hand and then exchange the snd-
hda-intel.ko file in

 /lib/modules/2.6.22-10-generic/ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel/

through the snd-hda-intel.ko file which was created in

 /lib/modules/2.6.22-10-generic/kernel/sound/pci/hda

by compiling the source and sudo make install-modules, respectively

I didn't try this solution but I think it should mentioned here.
Although it becomes clear now that the problematic package is apparently
linux-ubuntu-modules
