The scope has no say on what shapes the icons are, or how Unity deals
with them. Bugs about specific icons will have to be filed against the
specific apps, and Unity's poor handling of transparent icons needs to
be fixed in Unity. The scope only passes URLs to the dash, which does
all the fetching/rendering of images.
