This is maybe due to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LibAtaForAtaDisks in progress (or regress). At some point I had a UUID instead of /dev/hda1 in my /boot/grub/menu.lst, now it is back to /dev/hda1. There is a kopt= line with UUID, but it is overridden by a kopt_2_6= line with /dev/hda1.
