Public bug reported:

I was surprised to find that in 14.04 version of rhythmbox, the
rhythmbox-plugins package was no longer a dependency.

Was surprised further to find that the lastfm plugin cannot be
successfully activated.

In the terminal the following error was observed:

(rhythmbox:2910): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not load image 'Last.fm-
icon.png': Failed to open file
'/usr/share/rhythmbox/plugins/audioscrobbler/Last.fm-icon.png': No such
file or directory

(rhythmbox:2910): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not load image 'Libre.fm-
icon.png': Failed to open file
'/usr/share/rhythmbox/plugins/audioscrobbler/Libre.fm-icon.png': No such
file or directory

Looking in this audioscrobber folder, indeed the only files visible is:

ls /usr/share/rhythmbox/plugins/audioscrobbler/
audioscrobbler-preferences.ui audioscrobbler-profile.ui Last.fm-symbolic.svg

Thus there definitely is a bug in the packaging - this error is not
upstream in the gnome-github - so must be a ubuntu specific issue
