Stats, community comments and user's wishes don't matter to Canonical nowadays. For all the recent decisions they have taken unilaterally which caused big turmoil among the community, they have never backed out because of the noise or widespread disagreement from its user base... As it has always happened in history, when a financial or political power, organisation or group gains more leverage, they can impose their own views and they don't need to be "collaborative" anymore...
