1.) The freezing occurs only in the live environment. The starting
process ceases very shortly after it was initiated. See the photo I
attached a while ago.

2.) I do not have knowledge how releases BEFORE SAUCY work or do not
work on the machine. Saucy (13.10) works relatively well.

An older development version of Trusty was able to successfully start
up, too. Hence it is a regression in the development process of ubuntu
14.04.

Should I test Raring or Precise as well?  (I have never tried them on
the machine.)
