@ Bruno, For what it's worth, my laptop screen resolution is 1366x768 and ever since the last Ubuntu kernel update, the overlay hints has been working fine on my machine, granted workspaces is disabled as mentioned in my previous post. I never use workspaces, so that doesn't apply to my particular use case.
