I was able to reproduce the problem by going to the .viminfo file and deliberately removing '>' from one of the cmds listed after the line "# History of marks within files (newest to oldest):" in .viminfo
Adding it back... the issue is not seen. So it definitely looks like somehow the '>' went missing in the .viminfo in your case. I also went ahead, removed vim, manually rm -f .viminfo, re-installed vim and used vim and noticed that the .viminfo created afresh works fine w/o exhibiting the issue reported here. I am on Power8 Host running ubuntu alpha cloudimage in guest. thanx, deepak -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1266413 Title: messages seen when using vi or vim To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vim/+bug/1266413/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
