Tried the same than bug #1263015 but came up with a different
workaround. Install via LiveUSB created with unetbootin off the saucy
amd64 iso was able to be completed with "nomodeset". First boot into
installed system resulted in lightdm "cowbell" being played but a
backlight on / blank screen on the display. using nomodeset on installed
system results in framebuffer/console being usable - but no X able to
start (cannot find screen). tried some alternative kernel options :
acpi_backlight=vendor, video=1920x1080-24@60 but with same results.
WORKAROUND: set "nomodeset" in grub config, and install nvidia-prime
package. Reboot. lightdm/screen works fine, however some video-related
features are still broken, such as external screen (not even detected)
and suspend to RAM (comes back alright from suspend, but for the screen
that stays black).
