Might be helpful or not, thought I'd just drop it here. After installation of a fresh Ubuntu 13.10 with Secure Boot (and with CSM Disabled in the BIOS), using an internet connection to get updated packages, booting with nomodeset and installing nvidia-prime, I find that X/lightdm works pretty well. I can even activate desktop effects and the whole thing runs very smoothly. However, many features are broken (can't get an extra screen plugged in, can't suspend to RAM/Disk).
