I recently noticed on my Asus X550DP with ATI Radeon HD 8550 768MB and
HD 8670 2048MB, the problem (captured wallpaper only) will only occur
when I use the secondary graphics device, that is the HD 8550 which is
intended for battery savings.

Using the primary graphics card, HD 8670 that is intended for
performance, gnome-screenshot and shutter captured the correct data.
One can switch between graphics card using the AMD Catalyst Control
Center and each time you switch requires a reboot. I also noticed when
using the secondary graphics device, the primary graphics device is not
listed on the Information section of the AMD Catalyst Control Center.
However, these two devices is listed when the primary graphics device is
in use. I'm using PearOS 8 that is using Ubuntu 13.04.

uname -a output:

Linux mbox 3.8.0-35-lowlatency #27-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Tue Dec 10
05:05:36 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux.

fglrxinfo output when using the primary graphics device:

display: :0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon HD 8600M Series
OpenGL version string: 4.2.12217 Compatibility Profile Context 12.104
