I just looked at the screenshot I attached and it looks like the font on the screenshot is alright. The screen is only what suffers.
Anyway, some new info: 1. the font looks bad always when I enable vesa driver, even from live cd 2. 13.10 boots into failsafe X on my machine, but 14.04 alpha boots OK, so I replaced my system with 14.04 alpha.
