Public bug reported: STR:
1. Right click a volume in nautilus and choose "Format…" 2. Click "Format…" in the resulting dialog 3. Confirm your action again on the next screen. What should happen: A progress indicator or something to show an action is being taken. What happens instead: No visible UI change. I can click on the volume in the sidebar in nautilus, which remounts it with the old data. Starting a format of the same volume by using the menu in gnome-disks does in fact work; that is, I see an indication that the device is in fact being formatted.
