I'm getting this with Ubuntu Tribe 4 on a brand new Thinkpad T61p. There's a BIOS setting that I was able to tweak to put the SATA controller into "compatability mode" rather than AHCI (or some other acronym) which allowed me to get past this boot failure. I still haven't been able to get any Live CD to boot yet (tried Tribe 4 and a shipit 7.04 CD), though.
