Andrej: Just for the record it's probably worth posting your device's lsusb output. If you are testing Gutsy (with its 2.6.22 kernel) it might have also been able to workaround the problem without recompiling your kernel as mentioned in https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.22/+bug/85488/comments/363 .
