The workaround by Andreas (#52) seems to be broken (for me, at least) by the last update of gnome-control-center - 1:3.6.3-0ubuntu45.1 — which partially fixes 1218322 bug concerning hotkeys for layout switching ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings- daemon/+bug/1218322 ). It worked before the update, but now switching to "Russian (kbd (m17))" doesn't take effect at all (the layout stays latin).
