Clemens: Your issue is not exactly the same as the one originally reported here (bug #1169437). The issue originally reported here is that provided nameserver *addresses* are not used. Your issue is that a provided *search domain name* is not used. The issues could be related, but it would be better to file a new bug report against network-manager- openvpn.
