I'm using gnome-flashback and not unity... I tried the same approach as Tecknomage for my .local/share/applications versions of the menu items. I found that even though there is a Group calles Games, having Games in the Categories simply put the menu entry into "Other".
Switching the Category to "Game" rather than "Games" fixed it.
