Bug reports exist for the two issues. The debugger helper issue has been ignored so far (which for me, is the most critical of the two), and the unclosable/frozen windows issue is said to be fixed, but the update comes to official PPA's "in a month or two" :(

Qt 5.1 was aimed to have in Ubuntu already but because of some regressions on Unity8 on device it was postponed a bit. If wanted, Qt 5.1 is usable on desktop by adding ppa:canonical- qt5-edgers/qt5-beta-proper and dist-upgrading.
