It seems that some aspect of a recent update switched my trackpad to 'off' within gnome-settings. Visiting gnome-settings and reactivating the trackpad was necessary to keep it functioning.
The separate issue (that the external trackball was losing connectivity) is the same as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1060029 and was resolved by the workaround of plugging in power to the laptop, at which point the mouse continues working even after a period of idleness. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1239873 Title: Trackpad Pointer disappeared with recent update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1239873/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
