Public bug reported: Sometime in the last couple of days updates (I refresh pretty regularly), the trackpad pointer just disappeared within Gnome shell.
The trackpad works while typing in my username and password, the pointer is visible and moves as expected. However, the moment that I log in to gnome-shell, the pointer disappears and no mouse movement can be made. Attaching an external mouse is semi-functional, although after any short period of idle time not moving the external mouse (e.g. more than 10 seconds) it is necessary to click before further mouse movements events are sent. As part of the power configuration, this laptop uses a customised rc.local as attached, although I don't know if any of these are related to the failure (this specialised configuration has been installed in the laptop for many months).
