I'm afraid this kernel panic happened today (14-oct-2013) again with my current kernel (3.5.0-41-generic #64~precise1-Ubuntu SMP) .
As suggested, I also tried to install the latest Mainline kernel - following the instructions found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds?action=show&redirect=KernelMainlineBuilds - with the kernel available at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v3.12-rc5-saucy/ namely with the files "linux- headers-3.12.0-031200rc5-generic_3.12.0-031200rc5.201310131952_amd64.deb" and "linux- image-3.12.0-031200rc5-generic_3.12.0-031200rc5.201310131952_amd64.deb" but I got the following errors when running "sudo dpkg -i *.deb": -------------------- [...] Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 3.12.0-031200rc5-generic (x86_64) Consult /var/lib/dkms/nvidia-304-updates/304.88/build/make.log for more information. Error! [...] -------------------- So, I'll add now the tag "kernel-unable-to-test-upstream" to this bug.
