I chatted with a Gtk dev about my proposed upstream patch and he said
what I basically did was cause the behavior to act like the previous
behavior before his patch.  I don't know enough about Gtk,, so I'll
trust he knows what he's talking about.  He also said he would try
looking into this more, so we'll see what happens.  If I don't hear
anything soon-ish, then I'll ping Distro about what to do with the
original commit that broke this.
