I was called to visit a friend, who couldn't log on to her Kubuntu 6.04
LTS; it was getting 'stuck' at the blue-grey Kubuntu screen, but without
the KDE splash loading. She had tried and rebooted a number of times,
but it wasn't working. I logged into the recovery (command line) option
as root and started KDE, and it all worked. While there I turned off
her Convenience/Auto-Log-In, and I also looked into the kdm logs
(nothing there of concern!) :(

I then restarted and we got to the KDE login, but when we logged her
user into KDE it took a LONG time to load the Desktop icon; when we got
in it had an error message, "Couldn't load KLauncher". I couldn't start
Firefox nor Konqueror, but I could launch a Konsole and Adept, from
where I installed Synaptic to try to find out what package provided
KLauncher, to try to reinstall that. Unfortunately, I couldn't find
anything related to KLauncher!

So, I applied her waiting updates and rebooted, and we got in the next
time without a problem. Still, the whole episode makes me thing
something is amiss... Sorry that I cannot provide more information, but
please ask if you think of anything...
