MacPaul - your instructions seem to have resolved the issues for me, with one change...
You stated: "# remove the HAVE_CURL_GNUTLS=1 in the following file sudo vim setup.py" I found one section referring to GNUTLS and OPENSSL - they are if statements defining macros. I had to remove two lines referring to GNUTLS here.
