It could be an environmental change. See if running the browser in a new session changes its behavior.
Right click on the chromium desktop icon and select alternative action "Open With Temporary Profile". If Flash works there, then it is a stored configuration problem that contributes to triggering the problem. If not, it is purely a Flash problem. In either case Flash plugin should not crash.
