Public bug reported:

I killed it. It wait for ever if I do not remove an usb device (this time was a 
garmin gps).
reproduce with:

1. attach and mount an usb device
2. run the mkinitfs
3. during the process umount an attached usb device
4. wait ...
5. .... kill it or remove usb device

removing the device seems to work around the problem (i tested it), but
it was on charge and is not a good thing
