Sorry, but we are unable to reproduce this behaviour.
Setting long away messages results in 450 (or less if message is shorter than
450 chars) characters being report by /whois or by right clicking on the user's
name in the people's list.
Can you perhaps clarify better what is your problem and the steps to reproduce
it?
