Yes, I was able to complete the upgrade (I am a Linux user since 1999, a
computer professional for over 30 years, and very comfortable with
command line tools).  However, this was a home PC - we all run Linux at
home - and I was hoping that the consumer GUI based upgrade process
would be simple and smooth.

In any case, thank you very much for your response.  If you are able to
fix the issue, it will make [K]ubuntu work better for its target
consumer.
