I can now also confirm that the #13 fix does work for me too after invoking "service virtualbox" manually once, as recommended in #17, in spite of the BUILD_EXCLUSIVE error still shown on compile, and even after reboot into kernel 3.8.0-30. Thanks to both of you for the fix and instructions! Making this available by default to users in general would be a good idea indeed given the importance of VirtualBox as a factor for running Linux as a host OS in the first place.
