This affects me as well. ThinkPad S431, using UEFI (not legacy boot). I don't need to put the machine in suspend though. I can just shut down Ubuntu, and the computer turns off then turns back on again. So I reboot into the BIOS and hit the power button to turn the laptop off. Once again it boots up, I go into the BIOS, hit power, and then it stays off. I think this is related to UEFI.
