Public bug reported:

I started with a PDF downloaded from
www.csc.ncsu.edu/faculty/anton/pubs/icse98.pdf‎ and attempted to put it
through OCR.

Immediately on loading through File>Open the images from the PDF were
rendered with a vertical flip (as if this operation had been performed
on each page in Gimp).

Consequently it was unable to process the text at all.
