It sounds like a Sauce patch could be the cause of the regression.  Can
you test the following Ubuntu kernels on your current Precise install:

Current Precise: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/+source/linux/3.2.0-51.77
Current Quantal: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/quantal/+source/linux/3.5.0-37.58
Current Raring: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/raring/+source/linux/3.8.0-27.40

The kernel .debs can be found under the section "Builds" for your arch
on the previous pages.

I expect the bug to show up in the Current Quantal.  If it does, we can
test some earlier Quantal kernels to identify exactly when it was
introduced.
