This is currently a problem for some laptops. Restarting dbus fixes all sorts of issues after suspend (for example, on a thinkpad T61 the cdrom stops working, network connections time out, etc till dbus is restarted).
The gnome power monitor should handle this more gracefully than to simply die. (It could go away temporarily and check occationally to see if dbus is back and resume control) >>it's going to break odd things in lots of lovely ways.
