Christopher, I have since updated my BIOS to 2.53 and am now running kernel 3.8.0-27-generic on Ubuntu 13.04 and have not had the same problem since. Due to the intermittent nature of this problem I cannot say for sure that this solved it, though it is no longer an issue for me.
