I've looked a bit into this (the net(8) and smb.conf(5) man pages are helpful). It seems that all is needed is to set "usershare path" in smb.conf pointing to a directory owned by root:foo, where foo is the UNIX group we want to grant the ability to make use of this feature. We need to evaluate if it makes most sense to make this the admin group or a new group we create for this purpose.
