I also have the Dell XPS 18" touch screen "all-in-one" type computer. Because Windows 8 is on the computer, and no way to re-install it (MS does not provide), I can only boot directly to Ubuntu 13.04 from the LiveDVD written to USB, which I have done successfully. However Ubuntu is not providing touch screen support "out of the box", but neither is LinuxMint 15 which I also tried. The only way I've gotten Mint and Ubuntu to have some touch screen support is running it as a vm guest under VMware Player.
Anyway, with Ubuntu 13.04 booted from USB (LiveDVD), here is the output of dmidecode per your request. root@ubuntu:~# sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date A05 06/04/2013 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1191008 Title: Dell XPS 18 touchscreen not functional To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1191008/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
