I contacted Dell as suggested, asked them what the recommended method for updating the BIOS when running Ubuntu and got a response today:
… "The easiest way to update the firmware on your server is to use the “platform update” from the lifecycle controller. You can see a short video here on how to do that here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0qxLUYU338 (Dell Lifecycle Controller Platform Updates) Dell also offer a tools called the “Dell repository manager” that can be used to download firmware updates for later deployment such as using a DVD/CD to update the server. More information on this tool can be found on our community page: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/w/wiki/1767.dell-repository-manager.aspx" … I will proceed with the BIOS update (probably using the "easiest way") as soon as possible and let you know how it goes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1197698 Title: DELL PowerEdge R410 doesn't boot with Linux 3.2.0-48 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1197698/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
