If we sync it now then the new version should be in Debian before August 16th (UpstreamVersionFreeze). After that an exception is needed to get it in.
If we wait for the new version to get released and into Debian then we have time till August 30th (NewPackagesUniverseFreeze) to get it synced. I've talked with the bug submitter on #ubuntu-motu about it and he prefers the second option.
