Public bug reported: Binary package hint: netbase
(edgy; could be netbase or firefox) After moving the computer from a college network (with DHCP) to a home network (D-Link DSL-504T router), running a system update (to Firefox 2.0.0.6/kernel 2.6.17-12), and uninstalling Sophos (commercial antivirus) and installing ClamAV, I found that WWW access rarely worked. Sometimes Firefox would (slowly) open the home page or a page selected very soon after load, then allow clicking links (multiple times) but not clicking a bookmark; sometimes it wouldn't work at all. In both cases the error is "connection timed out" after some time "loading". The router's HTTP administration interface could be accessed normally from Firefox; it and the Ubuntu network tools agreed on the computer's IP address. The router is listed as DNS server; it can be removed in Networking settings (and this does remove it from /etc/resolv.conf), but /etc/init.d/networking restart puts it back (possibly related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129375 ?) Ping works normally. The ClamAV updater doesn't work, but this may simply be out of date (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129700). The iptables firewall is on but says it has accepted everything it has received. I have tried rebooting (including back into the 2.6.17-11 kernel), /etc/init.d/networking restart, apt-get install firefox firefox-gnome- support --reinstall, switching Firefox profile, enabling UPnP on the router, and using a static IP instead of the router's DHCP, with no effect. ** Affects: netbase (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- WWW very unreliable after router change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129803 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
