Ok, some more info on this bug:

I was experiencing this bug on my work computer (Intel dual processor
with Intel Graphics card) and on my home computer (AMD quad core
processor with ATI radeon 4xxx series card using the legacy drivers). I
upgraded my ATI card to a radeon 6450 card to get off of the legacy
drivers and still experienced the bug.

THEN

I bought a real big honkin' nVidia card (660t) to allow SLI and the bug
just stopped. Didin't matter if I used opensource "nv" drivers or the
proprietary drivers from nVidia. I can use widgets, notification,
etc... with no issue. Has been that wy for almost 2 weeks now. Ever
since I replaced the video card.

Seems like the issue maybe with widgets/workspace appearance and
graphics accellerators. From the looks of all the other people
submitting the bug, I saw a lot of ATI/AMD and Intel cards. I didn't
notice if anyone was using nVidia.
