I reproduced the problem in a similar way: ->press standby keys on keyboard ->machine switches to lockscreen and doesn't do anything for approximately 4 seconds -->while the lockscreen is visible I press the standby keys 3 more times -->the delay of about 4 seconds passes by, system goes to standby ->press power button to wake up the computer -->it wakes up to lockscreen and goes to standby after a second --->this happens as often as you pressed standby keys initially, afterwards you get to unlock ubuntu und continue your business
