I can confirm this. I have the same problem, however I have some other package:
mysql-server-5.5 5.5.31-0ubuntu0.12.04.2 instead of mysql-server-5.5 5.5.31-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 I have also running 1 ubuntu server ( also 12.04 LTS) with MySQL but there is no problem. @Robie Basak The commands you propose are not working or there is no process of mysqld. Terminal output: user@user-desktop:~$ lsof -i TCP:3306 user@user-desktop:~$ I also did ps aux | grep mysqld but no luck in finding a process except for: user@user-desktop:~$ sudo ps aux | grep mysqld user 21506 0.0 0.0 13616 872 pts/0 S+ 19:41 0:00 grep --color=auto mysqld user@user-desktop:~$ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1174012 Title: package mysql-server-5.5 5.5.31-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.5/+bug/1174012/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
