Public bug reported:

Dear developers,

First I tried to install 12.04.2 64bit on a Medion AKOYA E1230. After
full installation and complete update the display remains very dark.
Brightness settings via Netbook Fn keys or via applet don't change
anything. Only grub boot option acpi_backlight=vendor did work. No
propritary driver was available. After rebooting the logon screen
remains dark and only after logging in, the brightness could be
adjusted. Since that has to be done every time, I quit the 64bit
installation and tried the 32bit version instead.

After installation of 12.04.2 32bit the brightness is very low (again)
and can't be adjusted. A propritaery driver was available, but
installing this one caused this failure. Next step for me is to do the
full Ubuntu update and then retrying to start that grafic driver.

Besides that I'm a very happy Ubuntu user for many years, keep up that
spirit and thanks !
