Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-new
(Not sure if I am reporting against the correct package) I am trying to run Kubuntu 7.04. I have a desktop machine with 4 GB of RAM. If I wish to run the 32-bit edition, I have to install the linux- image-server image in order to access all 4 GB of RAM. However, this image does not have the corresponding linux-restricted-modules or at the very least, does not have the proprietary nvidia drivers available. I confirmed this by searching in /lib/modules/*. As such, I cannot access the higher resolutions using my nVidia 8800GTX video card. If I install a regular desktop linux kernel image, I am able to get the proprietary nvidia driver but then am only able to access approximately 3 GB of RAM. The best solution would be to have an additional linux kernel image optimised for desktops but supporting 4 GB of RAM (i.e. 64GB high memory support) along with the proprietary nvidia driver. A reasonable solution is to allow the proprietary nvidia driver to work if the linux- image-server kernel has been installed. If this is already possible, my apologies in advance. ** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- nvidia drivers with 4 GB of RAM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129253 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
