Hi Fionn,

When I wrote the earlier comment, I didn't realise that Ubuntu was
shipping with the later versions of madwifi.

There was some suggestion that the bug was not in network manager, but
that it was the poor WEXT compliance of madwifi causing it. This had
been reported to the madwifi devs, and they've now fixed it
http://madwifi.org/ticket/462. Gutsy at least (although I haven't
checked the others) ships with the fixed version of madwifi and still
exhibits this bug.

I guess this means that it's more likely for the bug to be in network
manager, so probably a fix will have to be applied to network manager
to fix it ;-) It'd be great if this was fixed for gutsy, as atheros
and intel chipset support with network manager that just works is a
pretty important pre-requisite for a lot of users.
