OK, see my last comment in upstream bugzilla - gnome-media from SVN, both with and without the proposed patch applied, exhibit the same buggy behavior. So it's not this patch that introduces the new regression, but either some other changes in grecord (which seems very inactive though), or other libraries.
In other words, testing on Gutsy can't indicate whether it fixes things for Feisty, so could please someone make a testing .deb for Feisty?
